We drove to a campground near Augusta, ME through driving rain. We stopped in Freeport to see LL Bean, since it was an inside venue. Freeport is one big outlet mall which it was the last time we were there and we vowed that we need not stop there ever again. By the time we left Freeport, the rain had stopped and we got to our campground and set up without rain. It was only a period of time before it started again. We got our meal cooked and then stashed everything inside. I must say that despite 65 degree weather, kids were in the pool. It was 4th of July weekend and time to be in the pool! And I guess if you live in Maine, it's not so cold. At 10 o'clock, as we climbed into bed, the whole thing let loose. It was like being in a surround sound and light production with lightning and thunder sounding everywhere. The ground shook, the rain came down--not a drop inside! What a storm!
We woke up to no rain, so we ate and packed up quickly, to get on the road before more rain. The trip north was foggy, no real rain. We took the airline (Rt. 9) from Bangor to Calais. Last time we did this trip, the road was not paved. It was actually a nice drive, in the fog, to Calais. We checked into the Wal-Mart for last minute US buys and filled our tank before crossing into New Brunswick, where gas was $1.00 a liter.
More fog on the trip to Saint John. Too bad; this is our second trip along this road with the same road with the same weather. We got to the campground in Saint John. It is on a hill overlooking the city. The fog is still here, so no view. The guy next to us said the place looked like a lake this morning. It still has a water look to it. The gals at the check in were going to give us a site with a view, but there is no view because of the weather, so we took this one, which is a spot on gravel in an open field. It's ok, near the bathroom and close to WIFI. What more can you want?
Just a short addition. We passed miles and miles of highway with moose alerts. Not a moose to be seen. We continue with our special aura of repelling moose!
