July 23, 2009 Gros Morne Park

This morning was glorious. Sunny, hardly a cloud in sight, no colder than 55 degrees F when we woke up around 6:30. We headed out to Norris Point which is just over the hill from where we are staying and stopped at photographer outlook. What a great view of the Tablelands. We drove down the hill into town and took some pictures of the Tickle. This is the narrows straight that is very shallow, so if you are not careful, your keel will be tickled. There is a ferry to Woody Point; it takes 15 minutes to get there. We decided to ride it round trip and we were lucky at the end of the day to have a beautiful sunny ride.

We left Norris Point and drove north to Western Brook Pond for another look in better weather. We stopped at Lobster Cove lighthouse on the way back south. It had a very interesting museum with a history of the area from the time of the earliest inhabitants through today. The area flourished as a fishing center, logging in the winter and the newest industry, tourism.

Back to our camp, where we did laundry and got ready for the next phase of our trip. Then we went back to Norris Point for our ferry ride mentioned above. It was a most wonderful day at the almost end to 18 days here in Newfoundland. We sat outside and had a drink before dinner and savored the day.
