Another clear, sunny day. We drove to Ft. Amherst, a lighthouse and historical site acrss the narrows from Signal Hill. You drove along the edge of a hill, past fishing fleet and up to a parking area. Walk the rest of the way uphill through a neighborhood clinging to the edge. Small cars only in this block. Up to the lighthouse with a different perspective of the harbor and the narrows and the view up to Signal Hill. Fortifications here for 250 years, including WWII.

The afternoon was spent catching up with mail, cleaning up the trailer, doing laundry and grocery shopping. It is amazing that there are big box stores here, including WalMart, and large grocery stores, Home Depot type places. They are all on the outskirts of the city, where the suburb type housing is exploding. Average price for a new house here is $300,000. Mobile homes are going for $140,000. Food is more expensive here, especially fresh food. A head of lettuce is $1.99, a cucumber is $1.49, tomatoes about the same as home, meat more expensive. Seafood is a steal. Gas is 110.9 a litre, which is over $4.oo a gallon.
We have talked to travelers who have come from the north. They tell us that there are hundreds of icebergs off the northern coast. The humpbacks are back there as well. The whales feed on a small fish called capelin, which are two weeks late arriving. There are signs that they are coming, because you can see whale activity close to shore.
