July 6, 2009 N. Sydney

We had sun for awhile and then it clouded up. We decided to go for a hike because it was time to stretch our legs. We were going to Uisage Ban Falls, a short hike up to a typical Cape Breton waterfall. We drove along another Pinchot road to a turn off that was a dirt road. After 4 km we came upon the park. We hiked up to the waterfall, which was pretty with lots of water. Lots of black flies that attacked me. I had itch medicine which I smeared on. It was too late. They really got me.

We drove back to the campground, where we did a load of laundry and packed up to head into town. The guy in the trailer next to us said he always gets sick on the ferry, so we stopped to get some dramamine and benadryl for my bug bites.

We then checked into the ferry line and decided to walk up to the hospital to see if they could look at my swelling. The cost was $400, so I decided to dose myself with benadryl and ice.

The ferry was much like the other ferries we have taken in Alaska and BC. We had a stateroom, which was spartan, but had beds and a bathroom with shower. We watched the departure from North Sydney and then shortly went to bed.

The ferry crossing was 323 miles but took all night and part of the morning. It arrived in Argentia, NF at 12:30 Newfoundland time, which is 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic time. So we are 1:30 minutes ahead of eastern time.
